Land Rover Jaguar AJ-8 Engine

All 'AJ-8' engines are a product of the FoMoCo plant. The AJ-8 engine was manufactured in an all-new, dedicated Jaguar facility located within the Ford Bridgend Engine Plant in South Wales, England. The Ford-Jaguar-Land Rover engine plant is a ‘Ford-plant-within-a-plant’. All three of the motor companies namely Jaguar, Land Rover and Ford are all a subsidiary of Tata Motors.

Both variants of the AJ33 and AJ34 the engine are 4.2 L (4,196 cc), except the AJ34 engine which came with variable valve intake cams. Both versions retain the 86 mm bore, however they do have a 90.3 mm stroke. The engine was introduced in 2002 as the AJ33 which produces 294 HP (219 kW) at 6000 rpm with 411 N·m of torque at 4100 rpm and the AJ34 which was increased to 300 HP (224 kW) and 420 N·m of torque at 4200 rpm.

Jaguar motor vehicles fitted with the AJ33 and/or AJ34 engines:

  • 2003–2006  Jaguar XK-series, 294 HP (219 kW) and (411 N·m of torque).
  • 2006–2008  Jaguar XK-series, 300 HP (224 kW) and (420 N·m of torque).
  • 2002–2008  Jaguar S-Type,    300 HP (224 kW) and (420 N·m of torque).
  • 2004–----  Jaguar XJ8,       300 HP (224 kW) and (420 N·m of torque).
  • 2008–2010  Jaguar XF,        300 HP (224 kW) and (420 N·m of torque).

Supercharged Intercooled Engines

The AJ33S is a supercharged and intercooled engine variant of the AJ33. It was introduced in 2002 and produces 390 HP or (291 kW) at 6100 rpm with 399 lb·ft (541 N·m of torque) at 3500 rpm. The AJ33S engine was later updated to the AJ34S engine specifications which included Variable Valve Intake Timing. The ‘S’ denoted to and meaning ‘supercharged’ engine.

Jaguar Motor Vehicles using the AJ34S 4.2 litre engine:

  • 2004-2009 Jaguar XJR Super V8, 400 HP or (298 kW) and 553 N·m of torque.
  • 2003-2006 Jaguar XKR, 400 HP or (298 kW) and 553 N·m of torque.
  • 2006-2008 Jaguar XKR, 420 HP or (313 kW) and 560 N·m of torque.

  • 2008-2010 Jaguar XF, 420 HP or (313 kW) and 553 N·m of torque.
Land Rover also offered a supercharged, intercooled version of the 4.2 litre engine as the company's then, high-performance engine. Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport version is not exactly the same as the Jaguar engine but the motor was respectively adapted from it.

Range Rover Vehicles using the AJ34S 4.2 litre engine:

  • 2006-2009 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, 400 hp (298 kW) and 560 N·m of torque.

The AJ41 V8 Engine

The 4394cc AJ41 version features an 88.0 mm bore and a 90.3 mm stroke. The AJ41 engine replaced the BMW M62 VANOS engine fitted in the 2002-2005 Range Rover Vogue models in South Africa.

Discovery and Range Rover vehicles fitted with the AJ41 engine:

  • 2005-2009 Land Rover Discovery, 300 HP (224 kW) and (427 N·m of torque).
